The radiotherapy service at the Parkside Oncology Clinic prides itself on always keeping abreast with all the latest treatment techniques and technologies and we are pleased to announce the introduction of the latest skin lesion treatment known as Photodynamic Therapy. PDT is a modern, highly effective and non-invasive treatment for certain types of pre-cancerous skin lesions as well as non-melanoma skin cancers. PDT is based on the chemical interaction between light and a light activated cream that causes a series of chemical reactions resulting in damage and death to tumour cells while sparing normal healthy tissue. During treatment, the light sensitive cream is applied to the lesion and after a period of time a light source is directed onto the area causing destruction to the tumour cells only. PDT has been shown to have comparable cure rates to surgery and better cure rates than cryotherapy and in terms of cosmetic effect clinical trails have reported that patients are highly satisfied with the outcome of the treatment. For further information or to book an appointment please contact Carol Hurd, Radiotherapy Manager on 020 8247 3431. |
