The oncology pharmacy team at Parkside Oncology Clinic provides a safe, timely and comprehensive chemotherapy service and out-patient medicine provision for cancer patients.

The oncology pharmacy team provides an individualized, patient focused approach to patient care, carried out by highly skilled and trained expert oncology pharmacy staff. Our professional and friendly staff ensures to meet the demands of all our patients, working closely with other members of the healthcare team. Treatment protocols are tailored to the individual, with the oncology pharmacy team ensuring best good practice in all aspects of the service.

The on-site Oncology Pharmacy Aseptic Unit is an individually designed state of the art facility with all the necessary safety checks, monitoring and external audits ensuring the safest and highest quality production of chemotherapy medicines. All patients’ intravenous medicines for their cancer treatment are reconstituted into individual doses specific for each patient, refined for their specific prescription.

The oncology pharmacy staff has been individually selected for their key and strategic roles within the team, ensuring that this diversity of expertise can tailor every patient’s treatment and they are also integral to the success of the multidisciplinary approach at POC to the care of the patient.

Encouraging continuous professional development through education and training, attending national and international conferences, undertaking diploma and MSc courses and the sharing of best practice is positively encouraged for all members of the pharmacy team. This means that our patients receive evidence based treatments ensuring best patient care.

The highly motivated oncology pharmacy team, with a total of 70 + years of oncology experience, have a diverse portfolio of skills and knowledge including clinical pharmacy practice, medicines management and information, oncology and haematology experience, business/financial/management acumen with strategic development, good manufacturing practice and aseptic technique experience.

Provision of additional services such as medicines information and patient advice, counseling and support for treatments, using the most up to date evidence based treatment plans, access to information databases enable the best possible care for all our patients and are key to the oncology pharmacy team’s role. Integrated services are ensured through the communication and support within the multidisciplinary team.

The requalification testing is carried out in the Pharmacy Aseptic Suite, Parkside Oncology Clinic by an external company four times a year.
