The onsite Information Centre offers the facilities and support to access a wide variety of resources through literature, leaflets, booklets, video tapes, the internet, cancer charities and local self-help groups. Information on health, diet, complementary therapies, aromatherapy, reflexology and therapeutic massage is also available as is a wide variety of Cancer Bacup information materials

Advice on the role of the Clinic's psychological counselling staff can be provided by our Information Co-ordinator and is arranged via the medical team.

Our Patient Information Group meets once a month and is an open forum for patients, their families and friends. it is an opportunity to meet others, to be updated on current topics and to have an informal chat - refreshments are provided. A guest speaker, covering a variety of topics including complementary therapies, nutrition, support groups, physiotherapy, exercise and body image is usually available to give an informal talk followed by a question and answer session.

A coffeee morning for relatives of cancer patients for information and support is held once a month at the Centre. A patient follow up meeting held every two months, enables patients, on completion of their chemotherapy or radiotherapy, to maintain links with Parkside Oncology Clinic through the Centre.

Financial concerns and money problems can often arise when a diagnosis of cancer is made and these issues can cause worry and concern for patients and their families. Again, we are able to provide advice and information.

Part of the expanding role of the Information Coordinator is to keep up to date with the progress of cancer charities, to develop links with and attend regular information network meetings, workshops and cancer charity conferences. Exchanging ideas , developing contacts and interacting with others in the same field is both beneficial to the patients and Coordinator. It is a way of broadening and maintaining a fresh approach to cancer information.
